The second part of our celebration is another way of saying “thank you”: giving back to our communities. As a company, we have been deeply involved in the communities we serve since our earliest days, when the founders purchased merchandise with their own funds. Throughout the years, we have made it a point to foster a spirit of community service as one of the core principles of our business dealings. We always have operated under the credo, “For service, rather than for profit.”

Guest Services is marking our 100th anniversary with a new “Century of Service” volunteer initiative that will involve every unit and every employee in the company.  Our hope is that we all will enjoy giving back in the spirit of all the employees before us who donated their time to causes that benefit our communities. Each unit will select a cause to support through volunteering, and each employee who chooses to volunteer for a day will be paid for the day. At the end of the year, we will have contributed thousands of hours of volunteer service, proudly continuing our company tradition of giving back to benefit causes greater than ourselves.  Of course, as always, this initiative is completely voluntary and any employee may chose not to participate if they so desire.

Please post the informational flyer in your unit so that your employees without email may share the excitement, and discuss it with them in your next staff meeting.
