Lake Mead National Recreation Area

Guest Services, Inc. proudly holds one of the most unique management portfolios in the industry with business types reaching a distinguished variety of hospitality services. Our offerings also extend to the unforgettable summer vacations of Lake Roosevelt Adventures where guests enjoy the accommodations of luxurious houseboats. Now, we are honored to announce the addition of a new property that features its own distinctive houseboat experience in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

Just outside of ‘America’s playground’ in Nevada, Cottonwood Cove of Lake Mohave and Callville Bay of Lake Mead welcome guests with unending spotless shorelines, remarkable red rock cliffs, and magnificent marina’s filled with epic aquatic accommodations perfect for a nautical adventure.

Rod Taylor, vice president of Forever Resorts, currently oversees the operations at Lake Mead and will coordinate its transition into Guest Services management. We also look forward to Rod bringing his exceptional experience and business prowess to Guest Services by joining as one of our team members later this year.

Given Rod’s extensive knowledge on the Lake Mead operations, we met with him to gain a better understanding of what this future property holds and to create this company-wide communication piece.

Overview of LMRA Operations

The property is a perfect complement to our existing services provided at Lake Roosevelt. Here, our management ranges from marinas to RV parks and spans over five properties. These properties are within the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, a 1.2 million acre territory including an elegant landscape, as well as two lakes with 790 miles of shoreline. It is a uniquely beautiful area with an unlimited amount of opportunity for exciting adventure.

Services Offered

The properties are open year-round for motorboat and paddle rentals; boating tours; full-service marinas; moorage and dry storage for boats and RVs; convenience stores with groceries, gifts, and tackle; food services; lodging; RV and tent camping, as well as mobile home sites. Cottonwood Cove features 18 houseboats while Callville Bay has 35 houseboats. Both welcome thousands of happy guests annually.

Our most popular services are the boat rentals, RV camping, and rafting tours. The most stand-alone attraction, which is also a massive fan-favorite, is our raft tour that starts at the bottom of the spectacularly massive Hoover Dam and travels 12 miles south down the Colorado River to Willow Beach Marina. It’s an unforgettable experience and a must-see for any vacationer.

Location

Just a quick 45-minute drive from downtown Las Vegas, Lake Mead is the country’s most diverse National Recreation Area. Three of the four local desert ecosystems meet at Lake Mead: the Sonoran, Great Basin, and Mohave deserts. The climate fits its location and is arid with average temperatures ranging from 50 degrees in the winter to 109 degrees in the summer. There is an average rainfall of fewer than 5 inches per year.

Wildlife is abundant here and features interesting creatures like the Black-Tailed Gnatcatcher bird, the Razorback Suckerfish, and the Desert Bighorn Sheep. The area is also filled with easily accessible recreation activities like biking, fishing, hiking, hunting, horseback riding, scuba diving, swimming, and plenty of opportunities for wildlife watching and photography.

Gold Lead Certification

LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and is the most widely used rating system of its type. This certification provides a framework for designing buildings in an environmentally sustainable way.

Our building at Cottonwood Cove Resort and Marina on Lake Mohave was the first floating project to be registered for LEED® certification. The building serves as the marina’s operations office and achieved a LEED® Gold rating. To date, there are no other LEED certified floating structures in the world.

Hoover Dam Tours

These raft tours provide a unique day trip onboard a motor-assisted inflatable raft through the Black Canyon, down the Black Canyon National Water Trail, and into the natural gorge of the Colorado River immediately below the Hoover Dam. On this guided tour, the pilot shares the history of the dam and geology of the area while providing visitors an up-close view of hot springs and other stunning features including the intriguing wildlife.

A stop is made along the shore below Hoover Dam to give guests a chance to enjoy the cool, clear, and calm waters as well as a pleasant outdoor lunch. The trip ends on the Arizona side of the Colorado River at Willow Beach, the uppermost boundary of Lake Mohave. Here, we give the visitors an opportunity to shop for unique souvenirs before boarding tour buses for the return trip over the Mike O’Callaghan Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge to our tour desk or their Las Vegas hotel.

The tour is a one of a kind because of its beauty, but also because no other concessioner or outfitter can access this area of Hoover Dam without going through us.

How is this a significant addition to the Guest Services portfolio?

As the 6th most visited National Park Service property in the nation with 8 million visitors annually, Lake Mead is yet another iconic destination that vastly strengthens our hospitality division and our organization. It more than doubles our current number of houseboats, fits perfectly with our unique culture, and greatly boosts our competitive position.

We are ecstatic about the addition of the new Lake Mead Recreational Area destinations and look forward to starting operations. Welcome to the family, Lake Mead!
